Let’s do a little essential oils 101:

First and most important – make sure you are buying the best oils you can buy.  Since the FDA does not currently regulate essential oils, companies can print whatever they want on the labels.

Make sure that the company you buy your oils from use GC/MS testing (click here to watch a little video on this testing).  It is important to know the purity of the oils you are using to make sure that you will get the therapeutic results you are going for.  Otherwise, you just have something that smells good.

Again – remember that the FDA is not regulating what companies put on their labels.

How to use essential oils

Method 1 – AROMATIC

Inhaling essential oils is the quickest way of getting the benefits of the oils into your system via the limbic system in the brain.

You can accomplish this by –

  • using a diffuser
  • inhaling directly from the bottle of oil
  • placing a drop in your hand, rubbing them together and cupping them over your nose

Method 2 – TOPICAL

Oils should be diluted with a carrier oil (such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, etc) or an unscented lotion or cream to avoid any kind of sensitivity on your skin.  This dilution does not diminish the therapeutic effect of the oils.  It will allow you to use less essential oil and spread it over a larger area.

Areas to apply essential oils topically –

  • Bottom of the feet (most pores and quickest absorption into the bloodstream)
  • Back of neck, temples forehead and chest (this also allows for aromatic intake)
  • Arms and legs
  • If you are trying to resolve an issue like pain or skin issues, it is best to use the oil in the spot requiring healing.

Method 3 – INTERNAL

There is some controversy around recommending internal use of essential oils.  Since I am not a doctor and do not know what medications you may be on, I do not feel comfortable recommending internal use at this time.  If you are interested in this topic, please do your own research and decide what is best for you.

Some issues where essential oils can REALLY help

  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Focus
  • Depression
  • Minor cuts and scrapes
  • Antibacterial needs
  • Antifungal needs
  • Digestion issues
  • Sleep issues
  • Skin issues
  • Scar healing
  • Purifying the air
  • Cleaning without toxins

That is just to name a few.  In future blogs, I will cover specific oils and/or issues and my recommendations.

Successful Introvert MLM Marketing

MLM Marketing for IntrovertsSuccessful MLM Marketing for introverts

SUCCESSFUL INTROVERT MLM MARKETING – is this a unicorn or can it happen in real life?

About 3 years ago, I joined an MLM company called doTERRA.  For those of you who are not familiar with doTERRA, it is a company based on essential oils and essential oil products.  This blog will follow my journey as an introvert trying to become  successful at MLM marketing.

My intention back then was to become a full-time wellness advocate and quit my day job – or at least create a fabulous secondary income.  I wanted the same thing most people want.  More time with family, travel and saving money for retirement.  Almost immediately I realized I was not going to be able to follow the “old school” way of MLM marketing.  Anyone who has ever been involved in MLM marketing knows what I am talking about.

  • Make a list of 100 family, co-workers and friends you can sell to
  • Talk to everyone – people in line at the grocery store, people in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, mothers on the playground, etc
  • Attend networking events and hand out business cards and discuss your business with everyone

Needless to say none of the above was going to happen.  I knew I couldn’t live a life trying to be someone I wasn’t.  Just the anxiety of thinking about it was enough to make me crazy.  So…..while I didn’t give up exactly….My business didn’t go anywhere.

I have one builder under me and another builder under her.  That’s not going to cut it.

Fast forward three years and I am ready to give this another shot but in the words of Frank Sinatra – I’m going to DO IT MY WAY!!

Now, there is a lot of information out there on the internet to help you figure this out….too much.  I have taken probably 50 free webinars in the past few weeks.  Learning something from most of them is not the issue but I don’t necessarily suggest going about it this way.  Working a full-time job and using my lunch hours and every spare minute at home to watch more webinars was exhausting.  But after all that, I do have some people/classes that I recommend.  I will work on building out my Tools to Build Your Business tab with recommendations and reviews if applicable.

I am determined to make this work for me.  Living a “laptop lifestyle” is my goal.  The easy way out is not what I am looking for.  Bring on the work as I am ready and willing to do the what is needed.

work wherever you want

Will you FOLLOW me on this journey?  I would love to hear other introverts comment on issues they have in marketing and how/if they have overcome them.  Or if you haven’t found away, let me know and maybe I can help.

Extroverts…I am not ignoring you.  Follow along too and make suggestions that might be helpful.  While I am always willing to step outside my comfort zone when needed, I can’t live outside of it all the time.

And always remember…..LIVE A VISIBLE LIFE!!
